Western Hope (87/4) recorded a vital 6 wicket victory on Saturday against George (86 all out) to improve their chances for a place in the play-offs of the Sedgars SWD Premier League.

Pacaltsdorp United (192/8) caused an upset when they thumped Pirates United (128 all out) by 63 runs. For Pacaltsdorp, their SWD player Neil Hornbuckle  – 61 with the bat and 4/18 with the ball produced and all-round match winning performance.

Mossel Bay (167 all out) came out victorious in their derby match against Sussex (55 all out) with a 112 runs victory with a valuable bonus point to keep their hopes alive.

Mayflower (302) recorded an impressive 162 runs victory against Ladismith (140 all out) in a SWD Promotion League fixture on Saturday.  Maylower (30 points after 8 matches) and Ladismith (30 points after 9 matches) are sharing the first place in Pool A of the league.  Riversdale (40 points after 9 matches) maintained their impressive record with an 87 runs victory against Thembalethu and lead Pool B.  Hartenbos (249) were victorious by 19 runs against Heidelberg (230).  Blanco keep their hopes for a semi-final play-off alive when they defeated Kwanonqaba by 346 runs.   In Pool C Pioneers are the leaders – 37 points after 8 matches after a victory of 100 runs against Heidelberg

Western Hope (192 all out) again impressed with a 31 runs victory against Mossel May (161 all out).  Murray Commins posted 58 runs for Western Hope.  George (133 all out) defeated Pacaltsdorp United (110 all out) by 23 runs in a low scoring match.  On Sunday, in a back-to-back match, Pacaltsdorp return the fortunes with a 15 runs victory against George.  Pacaltsdorp posted 196/6 thanks to half centuries by Niel Hornbuckle (57) and Chris Marrow (53) and thereafter dismissed George for 181.

RESULTS IN PROMOTION-, WOMEN’S RESERVE AND T20 COMPETITION

Ladismith (213 all out) consolidated their position as one of three teams on 20 points in Pool A of the Sedgars SWD Promotion league after they defeated Glen Roses (60 all out) by 153 runs on Saturday.  Ladismith have 20 points after 5 matches and share the first place with Mayflower (20 points after 6 matches) and Bongolethu (20 points after 6 matches).

In Pool B Riversdale is in the first position (25 points after 6 matches) but they however suffered a 6 wicket defeat against Hartenbos.  Riversdale (135/5) however on Sunday recorded a 5 wicket victory against Melkhoutfontein (134 all out). In Pool C Pioneers (22 points after 5 matches) is leading the log after they amassed 331/9 and bowled Kranshoek Cobras out for 241 for an 83 runs victory.

The Mossel Bay women’s team (29 points after 7 matches) is still leading the Women’s competition after they defeated Riversdale by 5 wickets.

On Saturday Union Stars (160/6) defeated Mossel Bay (159 all out) by 4 wickets and on Sunday recorded a 3 wickets victory against Pirates United.  Pirates posted 153 all out on which Union Stars responded by 156/7.

Harlequins Forces also had an outstanding weekend with two victories.  On Saturday Harlequins (189 all out) defeated George (181 all out) by 8 runs and on Sunday they 283/8 thanks to a brilliant century by Jongile Kilani (119) and dismissed NMMU for only 53 runs for a convincing 230 runs victory.

Pacaltsdorp United (96/7) defeated Ramblers (94/5) by three wickets in a match that was reduced to 25 overs per team after a rain delayed start.  In a nail-biting match, Pirates (169/6) scored the winning runs in the last over for a four wicket victory against Ramblers (167/8) in a match that was reduced to 45 overs per team.  Brendon Louw (56*) was the batting hero for Pirates.

Sussex (71/5) are the new log leaders in the Sedgars SWD Premier league after a five wicket bonus point victory against Pirates United (69 all out) on Saturday.  Pirates, who were unbeaten at the beginning of the weekend, also suffered a 67 runs defeat against Mossel Bay on Sunday.
